This is absolutely terrible news for the village.
“Mr Dallimore said the closure would be “devastating” for the village.”
“We’ve lost a lot of facilities as many rural villages have over the years and I think the closure of the school would be dreadful for the village particularly in terms of attracting young families,” he said.
“We’re already quite an elderly population with a lot of second homes and I think without a school it would make matters worse.”

‘I’m Backing the Pub’ – write to your MP
The Chancellor of the Exchequer will be introducing his next Budget in the coming weeks, and with it the threat of even higher taxes on beer, despite all the damage that this will do to our industry.
You can make a difference by sending an email to your local MP asking them to back the campaign. This is very easy to do:
· Click on www.backthepub.com
· Type your postcode into the “Petition Your MP” box and click “Go”
· The Petition your MP page will now come up identifying your MP
· Type your name and email address into the two boxes at the top of the screen
· Type your address into the boxes at the bottom of the screen
· Click on “send message”.
It’s that easy.
Then, please pass this message on to your own friends and contacts, and encourage them to do the same. The more support this campaign receives, the more chance we have of persuading the Government to abandon plans for more increases in beer duty in the forthcoming Budget.
Thank you for your help,
The ‘I’m Backing the Pub’ Campaign

Some of you may have been aware of Google being busy driving all over the country last year to take photographs of everything. They call it Streetview.
Today, they have published their content for around 98% of the UK, they say.
I have embedded the Streetview view of Trefriw on the homepage, so do feel free to have a wander about the village

March sees the arrival of a film crew from Liverpool on the mountainside. The small group from First Take are on location to shoot a short film, Heroes, and are looking for local cooperation. Everyone is working for free to bring the script to life up that road to Ardda and they need your help.
The group are coming to the area on the 20th February to meet with one of the stars of the piece, Baby William Ellams and his Mum and Dad and are keen to meet other contenders to star in the film and help out on set. One of the challenges points for the Liverpool crew has been finding a Landrover for the shoot, they’re hard to come by in the city, and are hoping to source one from the local area. So if you are able to part with your vehicle for a few hours, the Heroes team will be eternally grateful!
The team are also looking to cast for some of the major roles; Pam and Harry, a middle aged couple of hippies and Tudor, an elderly Welsh gentleman struggling to come to terms with the early stages of dementia.
If you are willing and able to get involved your help will be greatly appreciated, please get in touch with Hayley or Mia at heroesthefilm@googlemail.com

- They promised to give us a new playground with new equipment but they wont pay for it.
- They promised a temporary playing field for the summer holidays. What we eventually got at the end of the holidays was a soggy field with long grass, one goalpost and a bench – and it is locked most of the time because they haven’t paid the rent to the landowner.
- They promised to consult with the children and young people. They “talked” to them once.
- They said they’d get a play specialist to help the community design a new playground. They didn’t.
- They said we’d have our playground back by October. It doesn’t look like we’ll have it until next summer.
- They’re now saying that they’re spending £112,000 on the playing field. None of this is for play equipment or to give us anything that we didn’t have before.
- - £30,000 of this money spent on REPLACING the football pitch (which they dug up in the first place).
- - £65,000 on making sure that there are some flat areas on what’s left of the playing field so that play equipment can eventually be installed.
- - And they’ve spent £17,000 of this paying for their staff to attend meetings!!!!
What we want…
We want a fair deal for the children and young people of Trefriw.
- Funding to replace all of the old play equipment with new (chosen by the children & parents, not the Environment Agency)
- Compensation for the children of Trefriw who will have had nowhere to play for a year.
- Compensation for the community who have lost the only area in the village that could be used for festivals and events.
- Compensation for breach of covenant in building the flood defence on land held in Trust.
We used to have the best playing field in the Valley.
We don’t anymore.
This is our only opportunity to get the best play facilities we can to compensate for the destruction of our old playing field.
