Trefriw Historical Society ~ Cymdeithas Hanesyddol Trefriw

Trefriw Historical Society
The Society meets on the second Wednesday of the month in the village hall at 7.30. We have talks on people and events with a local interest and in the summer we have a trip to a historical site. For example, we have visited Pen y Gaer, Caerhun church, Penanmaen and last year we had a guided tour of the Suspension and Britannia Bridges in Menai Bridge. In 2008 we had a grant from the Lottery Fund to run an oral history project in the village. We recorded people’s memories of the village and they lent us photographs from their own family albums which formed the basis of an exhibition held in the village hall. The exhibition was shown again in 2010 as part of Peniel chapel’s centenary celebrations alongside oral history projects done by Trefriw schoolchildren who did their own research and interviewed their grandparents. The standard of the children’s projects was very high. There are still some free booklets that were printed to go with the exhibition. Contact Karen Black if you would like a copy.
If people are interested in the Society they are welcome to come to the meetings (notices are put up in the shop, café, post office and community notice board) or they can contact Aneurin and Gladys Hughes at gladys@cowlyd10.fsnet.co.uk or phone 01492 640297, Vaughan Roberts on 01492 640771 or Karen Black at brynhafod@hotmail.co.uk or phone 640329
